How a vend works

  1. You pay

    Apple Pay, Google Pay or card. The amount is held on your card, not taken. The number you punch in is printed on the packaging as its yen price.

  2. The machine makes it

    An item is written, checked against everything vended before so it is never a repeat, then photographed. This takes about half a minute.

  3. It is yours, and on record

    Only now is your card charged. The item gets an edition number and a permanent page in the archive, mirrored publicly on GitHub.
